The SMARTER Center maintains several research facilities at and adjacent to the Morgan State University campus. that move transportation technology from concept to real-world deployment. These environments support controlled behavioral study, live roadway testing, and hands-on technology development.
The SABA Lab
The SABA Lab is an applied research laboratory that studies traveler behavior using automobile, bicycle, and pedestrian simulators paired with eye-tracking systems. The lab allows researchers to run scenarios that would be too difficult or dangerous to test on live roadways.
The SMART Corridor
The SMART Corridor is a live testing environment built from a network of SMART Intersections equipped with LiDAR and V2X technology. Three intersections are operational, with a fourth in development, and the corridor serves as a deployment platform for future safety and mobility technologies.
The Innovation Lab
Housed alongside the SABA Lab in Morgan State’s Center for the Built Environment and Infrastructure Studies, the Innovation Lab gives researchers and students the equipment and support to build and test new transportation technologies. Work to date has centered on autonomous vehicle systems.
