MDOT-Morgan State Graduate Internship Applications Now Open

The National Transportation Center (NTC) and the Safety and Mobility Advancements Regional Transportation and Economics Research (SMARTER) Center are pleased to announce that applications are now open for the 2026 MDOT-Morgan State University Graduate School Internship Program. Interested students must submit application materials by May 22, 2026.

The internship program continues a long-standing partnership between Morgan State University and the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT), offering graduate students a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience working alongside one of the region’s most influential transportation agencies. Participants will contribute to real-world projects while building professional networks that support careers in transportation research, planning, and policy.

Interested students should complete the application form and submit it, along with all supporting materials, to:

Required Application Materials

  • Current resume
  • Copy of university/college transcript (undergraduate and graduate, if applicable)
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Copy of visa (if applicable)
  • Essay of 500 words or less responding to the prompt: “How will an internship at the Maryland Department of Transportation be advantageous to my career?”
  • Optional writing samples to demonstrate writing ability (previous coursework is acceptable; samples should not exceed three pages)

Applicants are encouraged to submit additional writing samples that showcase their communication skills and analytical abilities.
